The Saturn V was at the center of NASA's Apollo and Skylab programs because it was capable of carrying a 45-ton payload beyond low Earth orbit, which was necessary to send humans to the Moon. A total of 13 Saturn V launches took place between 1967 and 1973. The first Saturn V rocket launch took place during the Apollo 4 mission in 1967, and was an unmanned launch to test the rocket. The first manned launch took place in December 1968 during the Apollo 8 mission, which sent astronauts into orbit around the moon, but they did not land. Apollo 9 added another piece to the puzzle when a lunar lander was tested during an orbital flight, and Apollo 10 witnessed the launch of a lander to the moon, again testing its space flight without landing. Then in 1969 came Apollo 11, which changed the space race forever !......
