NASA SLS uses proven rocket technology and existing resources. It includes modified Space Shuttle main engines at its core and solid-fuel rockets derived from the Space Shuttle as afterburning components.

NASA SLS Block1 will generate 8.8 million pounds of thrust at liftoff and has enough power to carry a crew to lunar orbit and back.
