A very lightweight (24 gsm) and extremely durable polyester cover material. Thanks to its excellent properties, it can be used for models of virtually all sizes. The appearance and processing are identical to that of paper, but only 3-4 layers of varnish need to be applied. The product is manufactured and supplied in white (natural) color. Highly resistant to tearing, does not get damp and does not age.
Lightweight and durable covering material for model aircraft
Working procedure:
Surfaces are covered in the usual way, as with paper. The nonwoven fabric is laid with the smooth side out. A cut is made according to the size of the covered surface, with an overhang of about 20 mm. The fibers of the material are clearly oriented. Therefore, we lay the nonwoven fabric with the stronger side parallel to the span of the wing (part). Paint the skeleton 1-2 times with diluted nitrocellulose varnish and let it dry. Then place the cut out piece on the skeleton and glue the material, covering it with heavily thinned varnish from the outside of the covering. If we bend sharp edges (such as the edge of the drain), an iron helps. Moistening does not help, because the nonwoven fabric does not react to moisture.
After covering the entire element (wing, etc.), we tension the coating with the heat of the iron or the tension varnish itself. Tensioning with heat is very easy, wrinkles or kinks disappear without a trace. The appropriate setting of the iron can be determined by gradually increasing the temperature of the iron until the covering begins to tighten. High temperature can cause damage to the covering (formation of holes). To achieve impervious coverage, 3-4 coats of varnish are usually enough. It depends on the dilution. Do not sand the surface of the covering, as it would become irreversibly "shaggy". We repair any holes in the coating by "stitching" them with varnish. If the coating in the area of the repaired hole is pulled out (loosened), we repair it again with an iron. The nonwoven is available only in white (in rolls). NEW: we now also offer dyed nonwoven in seven basic shades. The dyed nonwoven sheet measures 50 x 95 cm.
