KAVAN's new generation of programmable microprocessor controllers for AC motors without sensors ("brushless, sensorless") designed using the capabilities of state-of-the-art semiconductor technology with excellent performance characteristics while maintaining very simple and user-friendly operation. It is used to control the speed of AC electric motors in recreational and sport aircraft models powered by LiPo/Li-ion/LiFe and NiCd/NiMH batteries. The controller is equipped with a powerful BEC switching power supply stabilizer to provide power to the receiver and servos from the propulsion battery. The KAVAN PRO LED programming card is used to easily adjust the controller (it is also used to program KAVAN PRO series controllers), which is sold separately.

DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE CONTROLLER

  • The controller is equipped with a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor with a clock frequency of up to 96 MHz
  • Optimized DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) control technology significantly improves throttle response and power stage control performance, lowers controller temperature

  • Adjustable PCO circuit - disconnects the motor if the supply voltage drops
  • Normal/soft/very soft start modes are suitable for both direct drive and geared motors
  • Safe start (prevents the motor from starting when switched on)
  • A number of protection functions: start-up protection, controller thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, incorrect supply voltage protection and control signal loss protection effectively extend the life of the controller
  • Special programming cable to connect the controller to the KAVAN PRO LED programming card allows the user to program the controller anywhere, anytime
  • Throttle range calibration to perfectly match the control signal from the RC device.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS

  • Brake type: Brake off, normal brake (with adjustable braking force in 3 steps), reverse brake (allows you to enable reverse motor operation via another channel using a switch, the reverse speed of the motor is controlled by the throttle controller) , linear reversal (allows you to enable reverse motor operation by means of another channel with a proportional controller, by means of which the reverse speed of the motor is controlled)
  • Braking force: the intensity of braking can be adjusted in the range of 60, 90 or 100% in "Normal brake" mode
  • Motor disconnection method: Soft disconnection: the controller will gradually reduce power to 60% of full power within 3 seconds after the voltage protection is activated. Hard disconnection: The motor is immediately turned off
  • Number of LiPo cells: we recommend manual setting to ensure 100% reliable voltage protection function. The controller automatically recalculates the number of cells of the connected battery according to the "3.7 volts per cell" rule when automatic detection is selected
  • Voltageprotection: the threshold level of voltage protection can be set to 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell or 3.4 V/cell; protection can also be turned off completely
  • Acceleration: Determines the throttle response during step acceleration from 0% to 100% / Normal/soft/very soft start corresponds to a ramp-up time of about 200 ms/500 ms/800 ms
  • Timing: adjustable up to 5, 15 or 25°
  • DEO freewheel: This function can be turned on or off; it can provide better linearity or smoother throttle response
  • Search mode: Can help search for a model that has landed in uncertain terrain - the controller causes the engine to beep when the throttle is reduced to zero for a preset amount of time

CONTROLLER PROTECTION FUNCTIONS

  • Start-up protection: The controller measures the engine speed during startup. If the speed stops increasing or its increase is not stable, the controller considers it an incorrect start. If the throttle is less than 15% at this point, the controller will automatically try to restart the engine; if the throttle is greater than 20%, push in the throttle fully to restart the engine
  • Thermal protection: If the temperature of the controller exceeds 120°C, the controller will limit the output to 60% (if soft shutdown is set) or completely shut down the motor (if hard shutdown is set)
  • Throttle signal loss: the controller will immediately shut down the engine if there is no signal for 0.25 s. After receiving a normal signal, the controller will resume normal operation
  • Overload protection: The controller will shut down the motor or start automatically if its load suddenly increases to a very high value
  • Voltage protection: As soon as the voltage of the drive battery falls below the set threshold level, the voltage protection of the controller is activated. The controller will limit the output power to 60% (if soft shutdown is set) or completely shut down the motor (if hard shutdown is set)
  • Incorrectsupply voltage protection: If the drive battery voltage is not within the acceptable range for the controller, the incorrect supply voltage protection will be activated; the controller will signal the warning with a motor beep

Note: When starting the controller for the first time, first calibrate the gas range according to the instructions. Only then is it possible to operate the controller and set other parameters with the KAVAN LED PRO transmitter or programming card.
